Karen Alexandria Kain, is born March 28, 1951 in Hamilton, Ontario. Her mom wanted her to do ballet class, because it would improve her posture, her discipline and poise. She starts ballet class at the age of eleven at the National Ballet School of Canada. After seven years of hard training, she was invited to join the National Ballet of Canada, to become a professional dancer. Karen Kain is married to Ross Petty a stage and film action, producer of theatrical pantomime productions in Canada. He did movies like Robin Hood, Cinderella, Peter Pan, Snow white and the little mermaid. Her brother, Kevin Kain is a noted tropical medicine expert based in Toronto. She also has 3 others siblings. She stopped dancing in 1977, but she started to dance again in 1981 for 15 years. Now she’s retired from dance but, she followed a farewell tour in 1997 and became an Artist-in-Residence with the national ballet and after was named Artistic Associate. In 2004 she reviewed the version of Rudolf Nureyev’s landmark “Sleeping beauty” for the company and became the Artistic Director.
